0.4.3 Update

Hello, adventurers!

This update tests a new level design. We've reshaped the terrain of the forest region and reworked how things unfold from your first steps until you've settled in.

As announced beforehand, every building has been reset. Characters, inventories, and masteries carry over as they were. To make up for the inconvenience, every player receives Tree Spirits and Inspiration.

New features

  • A renewed forest — The forest region's terrain, lakes, and landmarks have been laid out anew, and there's a brand-new tier 2 region
  • Forest City — A city now stands in the forest. Nothing can be built inside it, and no monsters or resources spawn there
  • Challenges — Complete daily and weekly challenges to build up points and earn Inspiration. There are also long-term achievements; completing them earns titles you can display in front of your name
  • Adventurer's Book — Your map, challenges, letters, journal, and discoveries are now gathered into a single book
  • Journal — Your character jots down a short note the first time they run into something new. It's a good hint for what to try next
  • Discoveries — Items you've obtained yourself and regions you've set foot in are recorded
  • Help — Press F1 or the ? button at the top of a window to read how the game's systems work
  • New map — The map now looks like an old chart with contour lines. It shows region names, landmarks, and dungeon entrances, and the minimap tells you the name of the region you're in and the direction of the nearest marketplace
  • 💬 Map markers — Place markers on the map with the icon and name of your choice. Turn on tracking and its direction appears at the edge of your screen. A marker is also left automatically where you died, and it disappears once you recover your lost bag
  • Looting bodies — Loot fallen sailors and skeletons scattered across the world for items
  • Gamepad support — Windows and menus can be operated with a gamepad. The cursor moves from button to button, and the quick slot is a wheel: hold the button and pick a direction

Progression rework

  • Items that used to be made at tier 1 and 2 workbenches are now crafted by hand, so you can get started right away without a workbench
  • Farming now begins at tier 3
  • 💬 Storage now works by building a single tier 3 storage chest and upgrading it. Each tier adds more slots
  • Gathering mastery experience is no longer earned by picking up or hand-gathering tier 1 resources; it starts when you gather with tools from tier 2 onward
  • The crafting list shows locked previews of the recipes that will open next
  • The mastery info window shows how to earn experience for the next level at a glance
  • Workbench upgrade material costs have been rebalanced

Improvements

  • 💬 Options now let you adjust the character's position on screen and the minimap's range. Try them if your character blocks your view or the minimap feels too zoomed in
  • 💬 Storage windows now have a sort button
  • 💬 When gathering, the lowest-tier tool that can do the job is used automatically, so your better tools don't wear out for nothing
  • Newly obtained gear is equipped automatically if the slot is empty
  • The building preview now rotates relative to the camera
  • The item info and mastery info windows have been cleaned up to be easier to read
  • Your character's name now appears above the health bar; click it to open character info
  • You can choose whether the shortcut buttons at the bottom left hide automatically, always show, or always stay hidden
  • Rawhide and leather names now include the animal they came from, so they're easier to tell apart
  • Monsters on a cliff above or below you no longer chase you
  • Movement animations look more natural when you're slowed down or carrying a heavy load

Balance changes

  • 💬 Item repair costs have been lowered
  • The sword Q skill's cooldown has been reduced from 8 seconds to 4, and the mace Q skill costs 1 more energy
  • Fishing no longer yields fish of a higher tier than your fishing rod
  • Food eaten raw now restores half as much as cooked food
  • Tier 1 tools (axe, pickaxe, sickle, tanning knife, fishing rod) now need twice the materials
  • Some monsters now attack players on sight
  • Monsters hit by an arrow fight back if you're close and flee if you're far away
  • Items with 0 durability can now be researched
  • Damaged items can no longer be sold on the marketplace
  • Tier 7 and 8 bricks now appear in the game

  • Pressing F with nothing nearby made your character turn around
  • Palisade gates could only be opened by jumping
  • Crafting repeatedly at a processing workstation interrupted the animation
  • Damage numbers didn't appear when hitting monsters with arrows
  • Dropped fish looked like a pouch instead of a fish
  • The bobber didn't fly out on your first cast after starting the game
  • Pressing ESC in the options window after re-entering the world opened the system menu

In development

The following features are still being built. Even if parts of them show up on screen, they don't work as intended yet. We'll finish them in a future update and announce them properly then.

  • Blessing of the World Tree — Coming soon
  • Tree Spirits — A currency used in crafting. It's given out as compensation this time, and how to obtain it is still being tuned
  • Enchantment — There's no way to raise a finished item's enchantment yet
  • Item quality — A system where items made from the same recipe perform differently depending on their quality

Thank you for continuing to send reports and feedback since 0.4.2. Thanks to you, we were able to find and fix problems we might have missed.

If anything feels inconvenient or off while you play this update, please let us know anytime. We'll keep going through your feedback and polish the next update one step at a time.

See you in the world, adventurers!
